MICHAELS MEMO 8/14/17
MICHAELS MEMO 8/14/17
Good evening staff, I hope that everyone survived their first
official school weekend. I was very proud of how smooth the first two days of
school went with everyone chipping in for morning and afternoon duty. I was
also very encouraged with the classroom walk throughs that administration
viewed on the first week. Students were allowed to review the procedures,
rules, and engage in some activities that will assist in establishing
relationships here at JSA Magnet. The students were very encouraged to be back
on campus and we hope to continue to stoke the flames of learning throughout
the year with engaging, collaborative, and innovative lessons that keep us
pushing forward into becoming an A school. The positive cultures that are being
established right now will pay huge dividends as the year progresses. Classroom
culture can help you to take students on journeys and adventures that they
never thought would be possible. Remember that you are the CAPTAIN of your SHIP
(Classroom).
Our video shows the importance of Classroom Culture and how it
can change any situation, conscious discipline, enjoy DJ and Mrs. P.
based on the video, you can reflect on the purpose of the
misbehavior. What are the students seeking out of the situation? Is it to
leave class, get attention (negatively), become the focus, deflect
insufficiency. How did Mrs. P turn it around, to make the interaction a
positive one? Remember when you are establishing your classroom rules that it
is more important to focus on the procedures of your classroom, than rules. You
can live with 3 rules, Be Respectful, Be Kind, and Be Responsible. Those 3
items will address any issue that you will have in the classroom.

be used with closed or open data for students to sort items in the chart
provided in the form. Please think about using in the various disciplines.
Behavior Update
Remember that students will receive their official JAC Cards to
be dispersed Monday morning. Teachers, always make sure that the students are
given back their JAC Cards at the end of each period. We want to maximize the
learning time and ensure students are on task for each and every one of the
instructors allotted instructional time. Please make sure that we are checking
uniforms, be on the lookout for students trying to hide non uniform jackets by
having their hoodies or jackets zipped up. Please make sure to have students
tuck their shirts in and make sure they have on proper footwear and bottoms, as
well as JSA polo shirts.
