Instructional Focus
Administration will focus on student engagement this week with walk through a and coaching forms. It is imperative that instructors sweat during planning and that the students pressure during the lesson. Focus on how many opportunities are the students provided to resolve questions, explain view points, and address the all important “why” during daily instruction. Try to refrain from posing a question and answering it 3 seconds later. Provide the students with true collaborative opportunity to address the learning objectives and engage in accountable talk, not simply on task talking.
Tuesday is the last day to ISIP (both R and M need to be tested) and to follow the schedule that Mrs.
Reddick sent out concerning progress monitoring.
Behavior Update
Kudos to instructors maintaining communication with parents and stakeholders. Excellent job at providing students with positive feedback throughout the day as well. We are going to implement a new exit strategy to assist in transitioning students smoothly out of the JSA Café.
8th grade will line students up at the double doors at the front of the cafe by car rider line. You will exit through the main doors into hallway of building 1.
7th grade will line students up at the center of the cafe and exit out of the doors beside the stage and side outer door on building 1.
6th grade will line up by salad bar and lunch lines and exit out of side door by teacher lounge.
We will dismiss the students by grade levels to lower the business that arises when calling multiple grade levels.
Attendance matters, please make sure that we are continuing to hold students accountable for punctuality when transitioning to class. If there is a student that is having issues arriving on time on a daily basis, that is a perfect opportunity to inform their parent or guardian about the issue. Sharing the responsibility between all parties assist in having more support to resolve the issue.
Work Detail update: we will also start offering Work Detail on Wednesdays' for the two hour infractions to provide a more immediate response to those that are having problems making proper choices at JSA. Thank you to Mrs. Dean who is heading up this initiative.
Shout Outs
Great, Fantastic, and Magnificent work by our JSA We3Expo team headed by Mrs. Sweet. The members of Dill, Clayton, Turner, Reddick, Gainey, Mills, Haigler and our student representatives did a splendid job of showcasing JSA Magnet. The highlighting of Jewett did not go unnoticed by attendees and fellow schools.
Also major props to the support staff for handling the multiple uncovered classes last week. We really appreciate our support personnel that always perform well above their pay grade.
