MICHAEL’S MEMO 5/22/16

Latest News

Good Morning, as we embark on the week I would like to take a moment to thank our 3rd grade instructors (Henry, Boyce, Parker, and Smith) for improving the 3rd grade scores by 11% from the previous year(52%) to 63% achieving a level 3 or higher. I appreciate all of the hard work that the team has done to increase the learning achievement of the grade level and provide our students with an excellent STEAM experiences. Principals’ Highlights

·      I would like to highlight the wonderful work of Ms. Mills and Ms. Haigler on the finest dance concert yet, since I have joined the JSA Family. The Ballet of Peter and the Wolf along with the great diversity of routines throughout the concert was magnificent. The students were excellent and the costumes and choreography was stupendous. I would also like to thank the Drama department for a wonderful job teching the show and ensuring the transitions were smooth throughout the evening. Great solo singing performance by Mrs. Wilcox as well during the production, she really showcased her talent. I was very proud of the show and the entire production and would really like to thank the ladies for all of their hardwork!

GLOW 4 THE WEEK

·       Our staff received glowing commentary on the past External Site Visit. 5th grade classrooms were visited by the external review team. She was very pleased with the progress made with STEAM and was provided the opportunity to interview a group of students to inquire about the difference in STEAM instruction after the grant and the students blew it out of the water. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of the hard work Mr. Lew, Mrs. Overstreet, Mr. Meyers and Ms. Delk.
·

 Formative Assessment

Formative of the week is Carousel Brainstorm excellent summarizing strategy for several subjects and all grade levels.

 Behavior Update

Please continue to be consistent in our monitoring of students with electronic devices and upholding the dress code at school. Your attention to detail has not gone unnoticed. When we have one voice on the items, it has cut down tremendously the amount of electronic devices that are out during the school day. Students are also looking more presentable by enforcing our tucked shirt rule.
