MICHAEL'S MEMO 9/26/16
Good Morning staff last week was a very successful outing based upon the site visit feedback from the external evaluator. She was extremely impressed with Mrs. Pruitt in 1st grade with her arts integration activities and usage of student work to display on the student board. Students were able to discuss and exhibit various disabilities while completing the art assignment by having one hand behind there back, and creating playground equipment while being blindfolded to display student disabilities.
external evaluator also was very impressed with the entire 8th grade team, who were exhibiting the EDP process during the sight visit showing their various nautical devices and testing them to see if they are sufficient to hold cargo. The projects are simulating the crossing of the early settlers to america and incorporating math due to the measurement of angles and science as it relates to mass and weight distribution calculations. The Fine Arts department was highlighted by performances from Mr. Smiths' Band majors that received an excellent compliment of sounding very professional, because most MS bands sound "pitiful", and ours definitely were far from that! Mrs. Neal and Mrs. Turner impressed the site evaluator through the various modes used with students ability to explain the purpose of the assignment and the rubrics used to create each work of art. Mrs. Mills students were focused on displaying various tap steps and identifying the number of movements in each position. Mrs. Gaineys' 4th grade class was working on being young scientist in the Lab working on chemical change and measurement using graduated cylinders, vinegar, food coloring, plastic bags, etc. The students were engaged and able to follow the steps of the scientific method and record their findings while testing their hypothesis. Ashley was able to display multiple projects in the fab lab using vinyl as well as the laser printer to display student projects that were created in class. Kindergarten had one of the most entertaining lessons of senses, where they were required to taste a lemon, the facial expressions were priceless. If I left someone off, I promise I will send out an all staff e-mail to acknowledge your feedback. The one important thing that came out of the site evaluators feedback was the tremendous growth displayed at the school over the past 3 years. I want to say THANK YOU, to all of the staff members for making that happen at JSA Magnet. I really want to say a special THANK YOU to Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Reddick for all of their hard work and sacrifice to ensure that we meet all of our requirements and ensure that all of the reports are completed in a timely manner.
FOCUS FOR THE WEEK
We will focus on Domain 2 with our walk throughs in the classroom this week and with our coaching. Please make sure to review your EPC's and do your best to infuse activities that will address the Domains characteristics. We all know how important student engagement is when it comes to student centered learning. Our video for the week addresses student engagement.
Please write a reflection in the comments by possibly trying to pose the question at 4:15 of what your ideal classroom would look like for students.
PLC FOCUS

'Ideally' my classroom would be reflective of students truly passionate about their art and with resources readily available. 'Realistically' I want those willing & ready to learn to be successful while finding a common ground of sorts for those that may not have the same level of commitment.
