Vol. 4 MM 9/12/16
MICHAEL'S MEMO 9/12/16
Congratulations first and foremost our Teacher of the Year Dennis Dill, and our SPARK of the Year Pamela Smith. We want to congratulate both of the candidates and hopefully they can bring home the big prize and lots of cash and win the big award for the county!! We appreciate both of your efforts and sacrifices to make JSA great. The long hours that both you sacrifice to ensure that the school runs smoothly and always looks good whether it be JSA TV, innovative lessons, alternative classroom settings, DJ, photographer, mechanic, mentor, leader, supporter, cheerleader, Dennis is always willing to go the extra mile to ensure students are engaged and interest are placed first when making decisions on educating his students.
Pamela works tirelessly to ensure that all items are covered as a terminal operator and puts in long hours to ensure all items are current and up to date. She goes the extra mile to ensure that all of our stakeholders feel the warmth and welcoming culture that the front office staff has established here at JSA Magnet.
As we embark upon the week we would like to say thank you to Mrs. Strouse for her service to JSA Magnet and welcome Mrs. Carpenter back to JSA Family who will be teaching 4th grade for us.
The thought for the week: "Don't let disappointments with students academically or behavior wise this early in the year keep you down, A lot can happen in a year." Growth Mindset
Highlights 4 The Week
KG classroom Mrs. Hatzer was utilizing technology to enhance numbers and skip counting using videos to allow students to memorize how to conduct skip counting with 5's and 10's. Students were able to exhibit the skip counting in the classroom while maintaining spacing and controlled behavior within the classroom. Learning routines were evident and students were aware of expectations of behavior and conduct while on the carpet.
Coach Meyers displayed excellent classroom management during 1st grade P.E. class. Students arrived and sat on numbers with minimal verbal prompts and using 1 and 2 claps to get their attention. Students are aware of routine of warm up lap by class and complete item and follow up by sitting in proper area. Class, follows warm up routine and participates and are fully engaged in the lesson. Students transitioned to classroom instruction with minimal disruptions, providing the students with maximum opportunity to participate in physical activity during class time.
Focus For The Week
Staff members please make sure to update your grades and lesson plans. Mrs. Sitek and Mrs. Heineken will be providing feedback to you if the items are not up to date in Pinnacle and MOODLE.
We have received training on formative and summative assessments in our PD. We need to ensure that we are applying our best practices and sharing information during our planning period meetings to make sure we are providing the best possible education for our students. If you need examples of formative assessments we have well over 25+ Formative Assessments on the L drive that you may utilize for various grade levels at the school site.
PLC Focus
Ernest Joe from the Diversity Office will conduct the PLC on Thursday. Please make sure to bring your PLC folders. Please make sure that you also follow the timeline provided by Mrs. Heineken on implementation of data tracking and examples of summative and formative assessments being utilized within your classrooms.
