Michael's Memo 4/2/17

Good evening, thank you first and foremost to the 3rd Grade team (Parker, Ricketts, Boyce and Henry) for 100% attendance for FSA ELA for the first 2 sessions of testing for their grade level. It is extremely imperative that we continue to have quality instruction transpiring within ALL of our classrooms to ensure the students are working up to their potential and beyond. I have a few data points and information that will go out to specific grade levels to assist in the focus of lessons to serve as a countdown to ensure students have covered all of the necessary information for their EOC and FSA Testing. As we continue to move into testing, please remember that there are more factors that go into a students' success other than right or wrong questions in class. Our Ted Talks focuses on the influence of food on learning........
Learning Focus

Our K- 5 Grades need to follow the instructions below concerning the classroom instruction.
Hold the course for strong instruction, protecting the instructional day from all interruptions.
ELA:
ü  No sticky standards this week. Please follow Second Semester at a Glance for classroom walks to ensure pacing.
ü  K-2 Literacy is a front burner for all schools. We can move forward to ensure learning targets are on track, small groups target the standards and student needs, and small group time is not compromised. We should see a lot of reading by students in kindergarten. Reflection: Are all kinder students logging onto AR for testing?

MATH:
I am attaching the math modules for tracking. Grade three overall seems to need review in Module 5 and grade five overall seems to need review in Modules 3 and 5. Please take time to review the module data at your site with some data digging in IBTP to determine specific student needs.
Critical reflection: Is the grade level on pace to complete and have review time prior to FSA?
SCIENCE:

Pacing is everything at this point to ensure completion of all the standards. GUT check is available for schools opting to use.

Middle School ELA, Math,Science, and Civics focus areas will be attached to the e-mail as well to ensure that the students will have all of the standards covered prior to the FSA assessments. Everyone needs to review your pacing guides and make sure that you are no further than 1 week off. Administration will conduct walk throughs checking this area this week.

Behavior Focus

We will instill a school store rewarding positive behavior for our students throughout the campus. We will poll the students on what they desire to be in the store as rewards for the elementary and middle school students. We will discuss at the faculty meeting how we would like to formulate the school store set up and frequency of purchases. Please remain diligent in monitoring student behavior with electronics, dress code, and proper classroom behavior. Remember, Administration are the only individuals that are permitted to confiscate electronic devices, due to liability reasons. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Weekly Shout Out

Mrs. Westbrook, had students graphing items in positive and negative numbers displaying work using the smart board. Students' were working in collaborative groups. Students were able to identify the LEQ and explain the purpose of the lesson. Kudos to the 4th grade class.

Mr. LeCompte's students were working on probability, with predictions. He provided modeling and guided instruction with the students. Students were provided opportunities to display their work in front of their peers and explain how they arrived at their answers. Students were provide the proper wait time to work through the problems in class. Real world application utilizing sports (basketball, baseball, and percentages of weather).
