Michael's Memo 1/3/2018
Good morning, welcome back and Happy New Year 2018.

We know that we experienced a great loss over the break with the passing of Ms. Clayton. She was a bright light and a wonderful staff member here at JSA Magnet. She was adored by all of her students and she worked tirelessly on improving the academic, social, and personal growth of all of her students. Ms. Clayton went above and beyond to reach students outside of the gifted umbrella as well. She worked to always place students first. she sought out the middle school students during lunch as well to establish relationships with students that needed assistance in various areas. Please support one another as we go through this turbulent time. Our video is in honor of Ms. Clayton's love of science and how she made connections between items for our students.

Procedural Updates
  • Cell phone usage has become a major problem during the school day. Please make sure that students' cell phones are put away and not in use throughout the day. If you feel that it is a necessity for the phones to be used during the day, please come and see me. Unless it is absolutely necessary, all student devices must be put away.
  • Social Media is becoming an increasing issue with students posting, creating videos, and communicating with off task behavior.
  • If a student has their electronic device out without permission, please contact the office for an administrator to come and pick up the electronic device.
  • Lunch Procedures/ Middle School procedures will be reiterated that each class must line up with instructor and achieve a level 0 - 1.

Academic Update
  • Monitor student data and it is mandatory for parents to receive contact if they drop to a D or F.
  • Please make sure that we are planning engagement activities. If we fail to plan and incorporate engaging activities, then we are planning for sit and get.
  • Please make sure that we are utilizing the county resources to ensure that we are fully implementing Mathematics and Science Curriculum to the fullest. There are several resources in MOODLE that can enhance instruction.
  • Elementary Math, it is imperative that Manipulative resources are used daily to enhance and provide concrete hands on activities.
  • Small group instruction should be included within lesson planning to ensure that variation and student needs are being met within the daily learning schedule.
Behavioral Update
Please make sure that we are continuing to foster positive behavior within our classrooms. We can do so by highlighting students making positive choices, create a positive marks board, and creating a position of ambassadors that are permitted more freedoms than others based upon their performance.

Make sure that we are placing marks on the online system after placing items onto the JAC Card.
